EXCERPTS

“Here, in Kamathipura, there are no gardens, only hell concealed behind a façade of normality. Buy tea from a cheery street chai-wallah, and next to you a child sex slave hawks her body under the vigilant eyes of a madam and a couple of pimps..”

Excerpt from Kamathipura – a prison without walls

“She reminds me of Africa’s boy soldiers: children weighed down by ammunition belts and poking deadly Kalashnikovs at the world—innocence abused and perverted. The exigencies of Guddi’s life have turned her into a chameleon. In interview, she constantly morphs as if her identity has come unstuck.“

Excerpt from The girl with many faces.

“Lata was broken but not destroyed. A fragment of Lata survived the holocaust, a flame of defiance the madam could not extinguish. She sold Lata’s body but could never subdue her spirit.“

Excerpt from Love and dope

CAGE tells the story of three girls abducted into sex slavery in the cages of Kamathipura. The primary means of story-telling is through a series of dramatic photographs that chart their journeys from abduction to sex slavery and beyond. Brandon’s raw and visceral poem, ‘The Cage’ provides the base notes for the book. These are tales of tragedy, horror and hope. The book is part of a national campaign to Stop Sex Slavery in India. Multiple initiatives are being organised to expose and stamp out sex trafficking and to rescue and rehabilitate its victims. Bombay Teen Challenge works for the emancipation and care of sex slaves in Kamathipura. A village of hope has been built to accommodate and rehabilitate former sex slaves and their children. The Stop Sex Slavery campaign is the logical next step in the strategy to alert the public to sex slavery, to release and rehabilitate its victims and to stamp out the trade in India..
